The NBA Summer League kicked off with all the hype surrounding No. 1 pick Victor Wembanyama with the San Antonio Spurs. It finished with a big time performance Monday night by Isaiah Mobley as the Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Houston Rockets, 99-78, to claim the championship.
Mobley finished with a double-double, with 28 points and 11 rebounds, and was picked as the game Most Valuable Player. It was the first time Cleveland has won the title since it went to a tournament format in 2013.
The Cavaliers were undefeated in six games at the NBA Summer League. Two other Cavaliers shined in the game as well: Sam Merrill scored 27 points, including 6 of 12 3-pointers, and Emoni Bates added 19 points.
Houston was led by Nate Hinton with 18 points an 10 rebounds, along with Cam Whitmore (14 points), Trevor Hudgins (13) and Fletcher Magee (10). The Rockets finished 5-1 overall and Whitmore was chosen tournament MVP.
