Las Vegas Aces forward A’ja Wilson was named the Western Conference Player of the Week for the games played from Aug. 18-24. This is her third consecutive week earning the award and her 27th overall.
Wilson is tied with Candace Parker for the second-most honors in league history. Tina Charles sits at No. 1 with 33 weekly honors. In the Western Conference, the most weekly awards won by a single player in a season is six, and she currently has five.
The Aces are on an 11-game win streak, which is the longest in the league this season. Wilson led the Aces with a 3-0 record this past week, where she averaged 29 points on 53.2% shooting from the floor, 12.7 rebounds, 2.7 blocks, 2.0 assists and 1.3 steals. She also went 18-for-20 on the charity stripe. Wilson became the 24th player in WNBA history to score 5,500 career points and was the fastest to hit that mark in the team’s 74-72 win over Atlanta. She also became the only player in league history to record three games with at least 30 points, 10 rebounds and 5.0 blocks.
Las Vegas beat Washington 91-81 on Aug. 23. Wilson tallied the league-leading 10th 30-point game of the season. She has now recorded 30 or more points in 34 career games. The Aces will strive for their 12th consecutive win on Aug. 27 against the Atlanta Dream.
