Mexican Independence Day weekend has long been prime real estate for boxing. This year, UFC and Zuffa Boxing are stretching that tradition across two sports, two cities and one streaming platform.
Saturday’s combat-sports doubleheader begins with Noche UFC at Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona, before shifting to Las Vegas, where Ryan Garcia defends his WBC welterweight championship against Conor Benn at T-Mobile Arena.
Both stream exclusively on Paramount+ in the United States, creating an almost continuous day of combat sports built around one of fighting’s most valuable weekends.
Garcia-Benn Brings World-Title Stakes to Las Vegas
Garcia-Benn gives the boxing half of the doubleheader significant stakes.
Garcia makes the first defense of the WBC welterweight championship he won earlier this year. Benn, meanwhile, returns to fight in the United States for the first time since defeating Peter Dobson in Las Vegas in February 2024.
For Benn, the stakes are also personal. He is attempting to win the same world title his father, Nigel Benn, once held and to capture it in America.
The fight also marks the first Zuffa Boxing “Super Fight” on Paramount+, providing an early test of how the promotion intends to package its biggest events.
From Pay-Per-View to Subscriber Value
That distribution strategy may be the bigger business story.
Mexican Independence Day weekend has traditionally produced premium boxing pay-per-views. Garcia-Benn, however, is included with a U.S. Paramount+ subscription at no additional charge.
Instead of asking how many fans will pay for one expensive fight, the model asks whether a marquee boxing event can attract subscribers, keep them on the platform and encourage them to watch the next event.
Pairing boxing with Noche UFC expands that opportunity. UFC describes Saturday as a full day of combat sports, effectively moving viewers from MMA in the afternoon toward boxing in Las Vegas that evening.
Dana White Makes the Same UFC-to-Boxing Move
Dana White plans to make that transition himself.
“Then, as soon as Noche ends, I jump on the plane and fly to Vegas and do the event,” White told Sports Central.
The itinerary reflects the larger strategy: UFC and Zuffa Boxing can share a fight audience without battling for the same Saturday-night window.
