Silver Knights win overtime thriller 3-2

The Henderson Silver Knights hosted the San Diego Gulls for game two of the three-game series on Friday, Oct. 24. The Knights won game one 4-3 and game two 3-2 in overtime. Henderson is now 3-2 overall for the regular season with a three game win streak.

Jesper Vikman started in goal for Henderson. Mitch McLain took the first shot of the game. The Gulls almost had a goal just seconds after. However, the referee blew the whistle before the puck slowly slid into the net. The Gulls were called on hooking, giving the Silver Knights their first power play. The men held possession of the puck well, but couldn’t find the back of the net while on the man advantage. Raphael Lavoie circled the back of the net with a wide opening to curve the puck in, but his angling just missed. The Gulls were bringing the heat to Vikman at the net, but he and the defense were quick to clear the puck. Kai Uchacz was called for tripping, giving the Gulls their first power play. Henderson didn’t let the Gulls score or keep much possession of the puck for the two minutes. The period ended with no goals; the Knights had four shots and the Gulls had 12.

It only took 45 seconds in the second period for the Henderson Silver Knights to get their first goal. Braeden Bowman scored on an assist from Jeremy Davies and Lavoie. The Gulls were quick to come back. Two minutes after Bowman’s goal, Jan Myšák and Roland McKeown scored within a minute of each other. Dylan Coghlan was called for tripping, giving the Gulls their second power play. Henderson’s defense continued to excel, keeping the puck cleared for a majority of the two minutes and only allowing the Gulls to have one shot. The Knights heated up their offense during this period, taking 10 shots compared to San Diego’s eight. 

The third period started with the Gulls finishing up the last minute of a power play lingering from the second period. After killing that, the Knights tied the game 2-2. Jackson Hallum scored off an assist from Christoffer Sedoff and Viliam Kmec. This marks his first goal of the season. Henderson got a man advantage when the Gulls were called for holding. While they were able to control the puck at the scoring end of the ice, they were unable to score a goal. The Silver Knights killed a fourth penalty kill toward the middle of the period. Each team had nine shots to end the third period and go into overtime.

The Knights were in full control of overtime. The men had six shots and the Gulls had none. Bowman scored in the last 16 seconds off an assist from Tanner Laczynski. Henderson and the Gulls ended the game with 29 shots each.
