Teofimo Lopez announces launch of Takeover Promotions, agrees to DAZN deal

LAS VEGAS — Teofimo Lopez is betting on himself both inside and outside the ring.

In an exclusive interview with Vegas Sports Today, the reigning world champion discussed launching Takeover Promotions, partnering with DAZN, and why he believes the move gives him the best opportunity to continue building his legacy while chasing boxing’s biggest fights.

Rather than joining the proposed Zuffa Boxing league, Lopez said DAZN was the clear choice because of where the sport is headed.

“It just wasn’t my style,” Lopez told Vegas Sports Today. “It doesn’t represent what I believe in. DAZN is collecting all the major promoters, and all the big fights are on that side.”

Lopez pointed to DAZN’s growing roster of promoters and championship fights as a major factor in his decision.

“DAZN is capitalizing and understanding the market and the value of the sport. I love it, and I respect it.”

Every Fight Has Been a Lesson

Lopez also reflected on previous performances, including wins over Sandor Martin and Jamaine Ortiz, acknowledging they weren’t his best but saying each experience helped him improve.

“Everything’s a blessing. Every fight has a good reason whether you win or lose. What are you learning from it?”

He said the biggest adjustment hasn’t been physical but mental.

“Mainly for me, it’s my mindset. If I really want something, I’m going to get it.”

Lopez admitted there were times in those fights where he wasn’t completely focused but believes that version of himself is now behind him.

“Moving forward now, more than ever.”

Undisputed Welterweight Champion Is the Goal

Lopez also revealed the next major objective in his career.

“Before the 2028 Olympic Games start, undisputed in the welterweight division—that’s the big goal.”

It’s another ambitious target for the former undisputed lightweight champion, who continues pursuing greatness in multiple weight classes.

Building More Than a Boxing Career

By launching Takeover Promotions, Lopez is expanding his role beyond being a world champion. The new venture gives him greater control over his future while partnering with one of boxing’s premier broadcast platforms.

Lopez believes every victory will continue strengthening both his career and his promotional company.

“I have a floor, and the more I keep winning, the floor just keeps getting better.”

Lopez returns to the ring August 22, where he’ll look to continue his championship run while beginning a new chapter as the founder of Takeover Promotions—a move he believes positions him for even bigger opportunities both inside and outside the ring.
