Golden Knights shut out Red Wings

The Las Vegas Golden Knights shut out the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday, Nov. 4, inside T-Mobile Arena. The Knights won 1-0 with 34 shots on goal.

Entering the Game:
The Golden Knights entered the game 6-2-3 with 15 points. The Detroit Red Wings entered the fortress 9-4-0 with 18 points. Akira Shmid started in goal for Las Vegas with a 5-1-0 record, while Detroit goalkeeper John Gibson brought a 4-3-0 record.

1st Period:
Detroit secured the face-off and controlled the puck for the start of the period. The Knights struggled to connect on passes until four minutes in, when they recorded their first shots. Noah Hanifin tallied the first shot to get the team rolling. The Knights took their time on offense while the Red Wings consistently had back-to-back shots on each possession. Zach Whitecloud was the first player in the penalty box. Almost a minute later, Detroit’s Lucas Raymond was called for slashing. Paval Dorofeyev and Shea Theadore worked together down the ice for one of the team’s closest chances for a goal. Las Vegas missed out on a few big rebound opportunities to end the period.

2nd Period:
Jack Eichel won the face-off at the beginning of the second period, and Theodore got a quick shot. Possession stayed in the Knights’ favor compared to the first period. The men went for more short-range shots and had many close chances of scoring. It wasn’t long until the Red Wings got their share on offense, where wrist shots were flying. The Knights switched it up and hammered some from distance, which found them success. Ivan Barbashev scored off the rebound from Brandon Saad’s shot. This marked his fourth goal of the season. Las Vegas only allowed Detroit to get five shots on goal. The Golden Knights recorded nine shots on goal.

3rd Period:
Both teams played relatively evenly in the final period. Shots were exchanged back and forth, and Schmid had huge saves for the Knights. Colton Sissons was penalized for tripping halfway through the period, and the Knights killed the two minutes. Jeremy Lauzon scored his first goal of the season, but Detroit challenged whether the play was offside. After official review, the Red Wings won the challenge, and Lauzon’s goal was removed. Las Vegas ended the game winning 66.1% of the face-offs, had 21 hits and 17 blocked shots. Schmid had 24 saves.
