Golden Knights Fall in Game 2 as Mammoth Earn First Playoff Win.

The Vegas Golden Knights entered Game 2 riding momentum from a 4-2 comeback win, but the Utah Mammoth responded with a poised 3-2 victory at T-Mobile Arena, earning the first postseason win in franchise history and evening the series at 1-1. Utah leaned on timely offense and composure late, overcoming another strong push from a Vegas team that once again tried to impose its physical identity. The Golden Knights finished with a slight edge in hits and controlled stretches of play, while Utah generated consistent pressure, finishing with 29 shots compared to Vegas’ 27. Goaltender Carter Hart made 27 saves in a solid effort, while Karel Vejmelka turned aside 25 of 27 shots to secure the win.

Vegas opened the scoring on the power play behind captain Mark Stone, who extended his point streak with a goal that deflected off Utah defenseman Mikhail Sergachev and into the net. The goal marked Stone’s 16th consecutive game with at least a point, which came after a game where Mark Stone leads the franchise in postseason points.

Utah answered later in the first period when MacKenzie Weegar fired a shot from the blue line that redirected off Rasmus Andersson’s skate to even the game at one. The Mammoth took the lead early in the second period after Dylan Guenther blasts a slap shot that beats Carter Hart blocker high blocker side.

However, it lasted just over a minute before Ivan Barbashev drove through the middle and beat Vejmelka to tie the game at a pair, marking his second goal of the postseason and continuing his strong impact in the series.

The game remained tight into the third period, where Utah’s young core ultimately made the difference. With under five minutes remaining, the 21 year old, Logan Cooley capitalized on sustained pressure, scoring the go-ahead goal to give the Mammoth a 3-2 lead they would not relinquish. Utah’s defensive structure held firm down the stretch, limiting Vegas’ chances despite a late push. Special teams played a role throughout the night, with Vegas converting once on the power play while Utah continued to find offense at even strength.

Postgame, Mitch Marner, who recorded an assist, emphasized the need to better contain Utah’s speed while also crediting Hart for key saves that kept the game within reach. He also noted adjustments being made within the top two lines as Vegas looks to generate more consistent offensive pressure.

With the series now shifting to Salt Lake City, the Mammoth carry momentum into Game 3, which will mark their first home playoff game in franchise history at the Delta Center. Meanwhile, the Golden Knights will look to regroup quickly and reclaim control of the series in what has already become a tightly contested matchup.
