UNLV football linebacker Austin Ajiake, who led the Mountain West in tackles last year, is scheduled to play in the Hula Bowl on Saturday in Orlando, Florida.
The prestigious postseason collegiate all-star game is being held at UCF’s Bounce House in the Sunshine State. The 77th edition of the Hula Bowl will be shown live on CBS Sports Network starting at 9 am PT. The head coaches will again be former Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith and former Baltimore Ravens head coach Brian Billick
Ajiake (Fremont. CA/Bellarmine Prep) is the 13th UNLV player overall to be selected for the Hula Bowl but only the second from the defensive side of the ball, joining future NFL player Talance Sawyer in 1998. Last year, all-time rushing leader Charles Williams rushed 10 times for 89 yards in the game.
A First Team All-Mountain West selection, Ajiake (AH-g-kay) finished fifth in the nation with 132 total tackles, a number that tied him for fourth in UNLV single-season history. He became the first Rebel linebacker to be named first team all-league since Tau Lotulelei in 2016. The Sept. 26 Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week also added 11 tackles-for-loss, four quarterback sacks, two interceptions and a fumble recovery.
