The Runnin’ Rebels kick off the 2024-2025 season at the Thomas and Mack Center, facing off against the Alabama State Hornets. Coach Kruger and the Rebels have high expectations this year, one of which is to secure a spot in the NCAA tournament in March. The team aims to end an 11-year drought from the tournament and become a competitive force in the Mountain West Conference.
Last year, the Rebels finished with an overall record of 21-13, placing fourth in the Mountain West Conference. They participated in the NIT tournament, marking their first appearance in postseason play in over a decade. During the NIT, the Rebels achieved victories against Princeton and Boston College but were eliminated in the quarterfinals by Seton Hall.
The offseason brought injuries to the team, including to their star player, Dedan Thomas Jr., who suffered an ankle injury and was seen in a boot and using crutches after practice. However, both he and his teammates have been cleared to play in tonight’s game.
As in the previous season, the Rebels will rely heavily on their transfers to drive the program forward, and they will need these players to step up if the team hopes to find success this season.
