BREAKING: Golden Knights Acquire Mitch Marner with 8-Year Extension

Kelly McCrimmon and the Golden Knights front office have once again struck gold by acquiring star winger Mitch Marner from the Toronto Maple Leafs. Marner has reportedly agreed to an eight-year extension that will pay him $12 million per season.

In order to secure Marner and clear up cap space for a maximum-length contract, Vegas traded center Nicolas Roy to the Maple Leafs. Additionally, just yesterday, the Golden Knights dealt defenseman Nicolas Hague to the Nashville Predators in exchange for Jeremy Lauzon and Colton Sissons. Prior to acquiring Marner, the Golden Knights had $2.186 million in cap space remaining, with 12 forwards, 8 defensemen, and 2 goaltenders under contract.

After multiple failed offers and days of speculation between Vegas and Toronto, the Golden Knights finally landed the player they coveted.

With Marner joining the team, the Knights now boast a top-end superstar capable of excelling in all situations. Coming off a career-best season, Marner recorded 102 points, finishing as the NHL’s fifth-highest scorer. He ranks among the top forwards in ice time per game over the last six seasons. While with the Leafs, Marner was a key penalty killer and played a significant role on their stacked power play, showcasing his elite playmaking abilities.

Marner departs the Leafs organization as one of the most accomplished players to wear the blue and white jersey, ranking fifth all-time on the Maple Leafs’ scoring list with 741 points.

He will be with the Golden Knights until 2033, when he turns 36 on his birthday.
