Raiders star wide receiver Davante Adams is featured on the new Netflix show that just came out yesterday called “Receiver”. It’s a spin-off of their “Quarterback” Series they released last year, and it’s definitely a must watch. In Receiver, you see a lot of the drama that took place last season with the Raiders coaching change, QB change and more.
In one of the episodes, Davante goes in depth about the decision to bench former Raiders QB Jimmy Garoppolo last season. They asked his opinion on them benching Jimmy, and his response was: “Well my opinion on that, was I signed off on that. And that’s just the reality of it. You know, I love Jimmy and he’s a great guy, but something had to happen in order for us to have a chance down the stretch and in order for me to remain a Raider, in all honesty.”
So essentially, it was bench Jimmy or trade me. What did the Raiders do? Brought in head coach (Interim at the time) Antonio Pierce and started fourth round rookie quarterback Aidan O’Connell. The Raiders at the time were 3-5, but went 5-4 after the changes to finish 8-9. That was enough to change Adams’ mind though about being traded after they hired Antonio Pierce full time and made changes to the quarterback position this offseason. Davante Adams is a fan of Aidan O’Connell, and says if he had to say who would be starting in 2024, as of now, O’Connell is his pick over Gardner Minshew.
