Raiders star wide receiver Davante Adams has been in a lot of trade rumors recently, and a lot of people believe it’s because he’s not very high on the Raiders current quarterback situation with second year quarterback Aidan O’Connell and veteran Gardner Minshew. Adams debunked those rumors earlier today in an interview on Shannon Sharpe’s show ‘Club Shay Shay’.
Adams says he’s “Locked in” With the Raiders and feels good about the team currently. I know, it’s July, but he also explained how he believes in second year quarterback Aidan O’Connell. He talked about how complex last years offense was, and to learn it as a rookie and get thrown in the fire the way he did, was very impressive and isn’t easy. He then went on to talk about how much better this years offensive playbook is and thinks Aidan can really thrive in it. Raiders new offensive coordinator Luke Getsy was in Green Bay with Adams, so Adams is very familiar with the system and playbook and is a huge fan of it.
Adams went on to say “I do believe in Aidan, I think he will feel a lot more comfortable (This season). He looked pretty good in OTA’s, and we’re just going to continue to grow and learn from each other. I’ve always been a big advocate for him, when he first came in he came in as a fourth round rookie real confident. He went and balled out and showed everyone what he could do.” He also went on to say “Give time for the flower to grow, we’re watering it right now. We got a lot of work to put in still, but I think we got a good chance to get a lot better.”
Training camp starts this Sunday, with preseason following right after in just a few weeks. We will see how much O’Connell has improved since last year and how comfortable he will be in Getsy’s new offensive system. If O’Connell can improve and be more consistent, make a leap this year with his play, then the hope is he can blossom into the Raiders franchise quarterback. The Raiders have needed a true franchise quarterback for a very long time, can O’Connell finally be it for them? We will see soon enough.
