Golden Knights open defense of Stanley Cup with 4-1 win over Kraken

The Vegas Golden Knights started their season Tuesday night strolling down the “golden carpet” amongst a throng of fans … and then gave those same fans a big treat with a 4-1 win over the Seattle Kraken.

The Knights jumped to an 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by Chandler Stephenson at 7:16 of the first period and then Jonathan Marchessault scored to give the Knights a two-goal advantage.

In the second period, Ivan Barbashev broke free for a goal to extend the lead to 3-0 before the Kraken got on the board with a goal by Jared McCann.

In the third period, Jack Eichel scored on an empty-net goal in the closing minutes for the final 4-1 score.

Goalie Adin Hill made 32 saves for the Knights, while Stephenson added an assist to go with his goal. Mark Stone had two assists.

The Knights go on the road to play the San Jose Sharks on Thursday.
