Aviators secure playoff spot after shutting out Space Cowboys

The Las Vegas Aviators shut out the Sugar Land Space Cowboys on Thursday, July 19. The 4-0 victory clinched the Aviators’ spot in the 2025 playoffs. They were also deemed the winners of the first half of the 10-team Pacific Coast League. This is the 12th all-time playoff appearance in franchise history and the first appearance since 2019.

Las Vegas is on a season-high 11-game win streak with a 48-24 (.667) overall record. The first half of the 150-game regular season concludes on Sunday, June 22. The second half starts on Tuesday, June 24.

Kade Morris earned the win on the mound after pitching the full 7.0-inning game. He allowed three hits, no runs, didn’t walk a single batter and struck out six. It only took the Aviators three hits to win the game.

In the first inning, Sugar Land starting pitcher Aaron Brown walked three batters. Darell Hernaiz hit an RBI single to put Las Vegas on the board 2-0. It wasn’t until the fifth inning that the Aviators scored again. The bases were loaded with no outs, and Carlos Cortes grounded into a double play. One base runner was able to score on the play, making the score 3-0. Colby Thomas inducted the final run of the game. He hit a sacrifice fly, allowing Nick Martini to score.
