Aviators on a nine-game win streak

The Las Vegas Aviators almost had a repeat 7-0 shutout over the Sugar Land Space Cowboys for a second-straight game. On Wednesday, the Aviators beat the Space Cowboys 7-1 after shutting them out 7-0 on Tuesday. Las Vegas is now on a nine-game win streak.

Las Vegas started strong with three runs scored in the first inning. Darell Hernaiz and Carlos Cortes singled. Colby Thomas hit a three-run bomb to bring them home. Taylor Trammell was the only run scored for Sugar Land when he homered to right center field in the bottom of the first.

Thomas produced another RBI in the top of the third, hitting a sacrifice fly to score Hernaiz. Just like Tuesday’s game, the Aviators racked up three runs in the ninth inning. Alejo Lopez doubled and scored on a wild pitch. Cortes hit an RBI double. With the bases loaded, Daniel Susac was up to bat. The count was 3-2 when the Aviators challenged a pitch that was called a strike. Las Vegas won the challenge, overturning the call on the field to a ball, leading Susac to walk and Logan Davidson to score.

On the mound for the Aviators were Aaron Brooks, David Leal and Gustavo Rodriguez. Brooks earned the win after pitching 6.0 innings, striking out three batters, walking one and allowing three hits. Leal earned the hold when he pitched 2.0 innings, struck out four and didn’t allow a hit, run or walk.

In the lineup, Cortes and Thomas led with three hits each. Hernaiz was right behind with two hits. Thomas had four RBIs in his 3-for-3 performance at the plate. The Aviators finished the game with 10 hits, while Sugar Land only had three.
