Rebels Outlast Aztecs To Take Game Three

he UNLV baseball team (5-6, 1-2 MW) defeated the Aztecs (4-6, 2-1 MW) by a score of 9-8 during the final game of the conference-opening series Sunday afternoon at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.

REBEL OF THE GAME: Jacob Sharp went 3-for-5 at the plate with two home runs, 3 RBIs and two runs scored for the Rebels.

TURNING POINT: The Aztecs held a one-run lead going into the bottom of the eight inning, but the Rebels answered back with Sharp’s second home run of the game to bring the score tied, 8-8, going into the ninth frame. SDSU could only tack on one hit in the top of the ninth inning before UNLV scored the winning run in the bottom of the frame by an error on the Aztecs’ third baseman.

Jack Sellinger (1-0) earned his first save of the season after throwing 3.2 innings of relief, allowing two runs on two hits with six punch outs.

Kelena Sauer (0-2) was saddled with his second loss of the season after pitching 1.2 frames of relief and allowing two runs on two hits and only one strikeout.

UP NEXT: UNLV will hit the road to Oklahoma for a two-game, midweek series set to begin Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. (PT).
