LAS VEGAS — The Vegas Golden Knights turned Thursday night into a showcase of offensive firepower, as Mark Stone recorded a natural hat trick and Jack Eichel delivered a three-point performance in a commanding 6-2 victory over the Calgary Flames at T-Mobile Arena.
Vegas improved to 7-2-0 on the season, winning six of its last seven games, while Calgary fell to 1-6-0. Stone’s three-goal third period headlined a night in which Eichel, Ivan Barbashev and Mitch Marner helped fuel the Golden Knights’ attack. Goaltender Carter Hart stopped 28 of 30 shots to secure the victory.
Vegas strikes early
The Golden Knights wasted little time getting on the scoreboard.
Just 25 seconds into the opening period, Brett Howden opened the scoring with his third goal of the season, beating Calgary goaltender Dustin Wolf with a shot over the glove and into the top corner. Marner created the opportunity with a beautiful backhand pass that sent Howden into the offensive zone with room to finish.
Vegas doubled its lead at 9:34 when Eichel turned defense into offense while the Golden Knights were shorthanded. After intercepting a pass from Yegor Sharangovich in the neutral zone, Eichel raced in alone on Wolf and fired a shot past the goaltender’s glove to make it 2-0. The goal demonstrated the kind of all-around impact Eichel brings to Vegas, combining defensive awareness with the speed and finishing ability to punish opponents for their mistakes.
Flames respond, but Golden Knights answer
Calgary found a response midway through the second period when Jacob Middleton scored while the Flames were shorthanded, cutting the deficit to 2-1 at 10:15.
However, Vegas answered less than a minute later. With the Golden Knights still on the power play, William Karlsson moved the puck to Barbashev, who found Braeden Bowman in the right circlej. Bowman buried the one-timer at 11:03 to restore Vegas’ two-goal advantage.
The sequence proved important as the Golden Knights maintained control despite allowing Calgary to briefly gain momentum. Rather than letting the Flames build on their goal, Vegas immediately capitalized on its special-teams opportunity.
Mark Stone takes over in the third
If the first two periods established Vegas’ control, the third period belonged to its captain. Just 1:06 into the final frame, Eichel delivered a tape-to-tape pass to Stone, who drove toward the net and redirected the puck past Wolf to extend the lead to 4-1. Stone struck again at 12:09, capitalizing on a rebound after Noah Hanifin’s initial shot to push Vegas ahead 5-1.
With the Golden Knights back on the power play, Eichel found Stone for a third time, and the captain fired a shot into the left corner at 16:13 to complete his natural hat trick. The three goals were Stone’s second career regular-season hat trick, with his previous one coming on Jan. 15, 2024.
Calgary’s Matt Coronato added a power-play goal late in the third, but the damage had already been done. Stone’s three-goal outburst powered Vegas to a convincing 6-2 win.
Eichel and Vegas’ offense continue to roll
Stone earned the spotlight, but Eichel was instrumental throughout the night, finishing with a goal and two assists for three points. Barbashev also recorded three assists, while Marner contributed two helpers.
The performance highlighted the depth of Vegas’ offense, with contributions coming from multiple lines and special-teams situations. Howden provided the early spark, Bowman delivered an important second-period response, and Stone put the game away when it mattered most.
Hart’s 28 saves provided stability at the other end of the ice, helping Vegas withstand Calgary’s attempts to stay in the contest.
The victory also extended the Golden Knights’ impressive home record against the Flames to 14-2-0 all time in Las Vegas.
For the Golden Knights, Thursday’s performance was more than another win in the standings. It was a demonstration of how quickly their offense can take over a game when Eichel is creating opportunities, Marner is distributing the puck and Stone is finishing around the net.
Vegas now turns its attention to its next challenge, carrying the momentum of another strong offensive performance as it continues its early-season push.
