USA Basketball men’s and women’s teams to train, play in Las Vegas in July

The road to the Olympics for the men’s and women’s USA Basketball teams will run through Las Vegas.

On Thursday, USA Basketball and MGM Resorts International announced an expanded, multi-year partnership to make MGM Resorts’ properties in Las Vegas the official training camp home of the USA men’s and women’s national teams.

Both the men’s and women’s teams will congregate in Las Vegas this July for practice and a series of games against teams from other countries.

There will be seven games featuring both the men’s and women’s national teams from July 10-18.

We’re excited to bring our national teams to their properties as we prepare for the challenging competition that lies ahead this summer,” said Jim Tooley, USA Basketball CEO. “Training camps are such an important foundation for our preparation and having such a strong commitment from MGM positions us for great success.”

This expanded partnership will allow us to showcase our resorts as we host multiple USA Basketball games at Michelob ULTRA Arena at Mandalay Bay, as well as a variety of USA Basketball-related activities. The camp will open July 6 and all games will be played at the Michelob ULTRA Arena at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino. The schedule is as follows:

USA Men’s National Team

July 10: vs. Nigeria, 5 p.m. (all games PDT)

July 12: vs. Australia, 5 p.m.

July 13: vs. Argentina, 5 p.m.

July 16: vs. Australia, 3 p.m.

July 18: vs. Spain, 6 p.m.

USA Basketball Women’s National Team

July 16: vs. Australia, 11:30 a.m.

July 18: vs. Nigeria, 2:30 p.m.

Additional International match up games:

July 10: Argentina vs. Australia, 8:30 p.m.

July 12: Argentina vs. Nigeria, 1:30 p.m.

July 13: Australia vs. Nigeria, 6:30 p.m.

Comprehensive health and safety protocols will be in place, including mandatory and regular COVID-19 PCR testing, administered to athletes, coaches, officials and staff in accordance with FIBA and USA Basketball recommendations and CDC guidelines.

The rosters for training camps are to be announced, but they will be comprised of members of the USA Men’s and USA Women’s National Teams.

The USA men are led by head coach Gregg Popovich (San Antonio Spurs) with assistant coaches Steve Kerr (Golden State Warriors), Lloyd Pierce and Jay Wright (Villanova University), with Jerry Colangelo as the USA Men’s National Team managing director.

The USA women are guided by head mentor Dawn Staley (South Carolina) and assistant coaches Dan Hughes, Cheryl Reeve (Minnesota Lynx) and Jennifer Rizzotti (Connecticut Sun president).
