Is Derek Carr that “motherf—cker” of the Tom Brady The Shop comment that broadcast during an episode on HBO last week?
Although there had also been speculation that it could have been the Titans or the 49ers, these three websites each layout a compelling case that it’s actually the Raiders.
Tom Brady The Shop comment fits the timeline
On The Shop – Uninterrupted on HBOMax, the Tom Brady comment was “One of the teams, they weren’t interested at the very end. I was thinking, ‘You’re sticking with that motherf–ker?’”
Barstool layed out a timeline that starts Feb. 23 through March 20, which was the schedule of the NFL Combine where teams could first talk with Brady’s agent. It seems to point to, if you follow the timeline, the Tom Brady The Shop comment was perhaps about the Raiders.
On March 15, the Titans signed their quarterback, Ryan Tannehill, to a big extension. That took them out of the market. That same day, the 49ers quashed rumors of a Brady signing when coach Kyle Shanahan told Chris Simms that they were out of the running and sticking with Jimmy Garoppolo.
Those two decisions could have easily placed Tannehill or Garoppolo into that “motherf—cker” mode, but obviously the timeline doesn’t end there.
The next day, the Raiders decide to sign Marcus Mariota as Carr’s backup. It was widely rumored that Raiders GM Mike Mayock was open to the discussion of signing Brady.
The same day the Raiders signed Mariota, Brady decided to go with the Buccaneers. He inked his deal on March 20.
Revenge on mind in Brady’s comment
The biggest tell in the speculation about the Tom Brady The Shop comment is that he also said,”But they said they didn’t want me and I know what that means and I know what that feels like and I’m gonna f-ck you up because of that!”
Of those three teams, the only one that would have been on the Buccaneers schedule in 2020 was the Raiders.
And by his performance, Brady did his best to “f-ck” them up. In that game, Brady was 33 of 45 passing for 369 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed for a touchdown in a Week Seven game in Las Vegas. The Bucs won 45-20.
