Round 2(West Semi’s)Game 3
The Lakers are tied 1-1 with the Houston Rockets in a series that has everybody on the edge of your seat.
1st quarter was a back and forth tussle with both teams getting out to hot starts. The score was deadlocked throughout the period with several ties and lead changes.
Russel Westbrook was catalyst for the Rockets with 13 points with bank shots and those stellar drives to the hoop.
Lebron lead the way with 12 points in the quarter slicing to the hoop almost at will taking advantage of the small Rockets lineup. Anthony Davis added 9 points and 4 rebounds.
The Rockets shot over 60 percent in the 1st quarter. This would help getting the lead late in the quarter even though it was a single point the Rockets still lead 33-32
at end of 1.
2nd quarter the pace continued to be fast with little separation between these teams on the scoreboard. The Rockets increased the lead 46-40 with 7:14 left in the 2nd quarter.
Lebron would not be discouraged as he kept shrinking the deficit scoring 17 of the Lakers 21 points in the 2nd quarter. The Lakers would get within in 1 at 3:09 with the score 53-52.
The Rockets would finish the quarter strong out scoring the Lakers 14-9 to closeout the half with 64-61 lead.
3rd quarter started slow for each team. The Lakers were able to tie the game up 66-66 on Danny Green layup in traffic. The Lakers would go on 6-0 run after an Eric Gordon 3 pointer.
The Rockets would counter with 2 straight three pointers to take a 75-74 lead with 4:40 to play in the quarter. The Lakers would get a slight edge in the late scoring in the period 8-7 tying the game 82-82 going into the final frame.
The Lakers would start the 4th quarter very hot after a Westbrook 3 point made it 85-84 .The Lakers would go on a 15-5 run to give the Lakers a 97-87 with Rajon Rondo scoring 10 of those points with 2 made three pointers, forcing a Rockets timeout.
The Lakers momentum kept building throughout the quarter the lead would get to 101-89 before a stoppage at due to an injury to Robert Covington. The Lakers would coast to a 112-102 victory to take the series lead 2-1.
My 2 Cents
Lebron led by example and vocally tonight. He carried the Lakers on his back in the 1st half with. In The 2nd half he turned his efforts to defense which would be huge for his team. The Lakers only allowed the Rockets 38 points in the 2nd Half, compared to the 64 in the 1st half.
Lebron would finish with another big game with 36 points, 7 Rebounds and 5 assists. This night would be historic as well with Lebron becoming the all time leader in playoff wins for a player, notching his 162nd win in his 17th year as a pro.
AD would finish up with 26 points,15 Rebounds and 6 Assists. This was a grueling effort for AD with the Rockets being so physical with him but he showed his toughness, which has been criticized for being soft in the playoffs.
The player of the game was the old veteran Rajon Rondo who scored 12 points in the final quarter and even had his own 8-0 run that put the Lakers ahead for good in the game. That run sparked the lineup on the court who kept the points coming to close out the game.
The Rockets still where able to get 63 combined points from the Harden/Westbrook duo. As a team the shooting was at a high level for The Rockets until the 4th quarter for the second game in a row. 5 turnovers in the 4th did some damage too the Lakers turned those into points at crucial moments.
Game 4 is very pivotal in this series, both teams will have a sense of urgency. This game will come down to who wants it more. I expect both teams to make adjustments on both ends of the floor. The basketball world will be glued to this game on Thursday night this series is Must-See- TV.
