The Oakland Raiders front office have been active on the free agent market and show no signs of slowing down. The Raiders and offensive tackle Trent Brown have agreed on a four-year, $66 million contract ($36.75 million guaranteed). That will make Brown the highest paid offensive lineman in NFL history.

Brown’s record-breaking contract will top the Titans Taylor Lewan’s $16 million per year, as Brown will make $16.5 million per year. The Raiders have structured his deal as a front loaded contract, where all the guaranteed money will come within the first two years of his contract.

Brown, the former 49ers and Patriots tackle has shown versatility playing both left tackle and right tackle during his four-year career. Brown, the 26-year offensive lineman started his career at right tackle with the 49ers before getting traded to the Patriots and switching over to the left side. His production is top-notch on either side, as he’s only given up nine sacks over his four-years in the league.

Sources have reported that Brown will become the Raiders new left tackle, despite drafting one in the first round by selecting  Kolton Miller in the 2018 draft. Miller will move over to right tackle, where he played in college at UCLA. The move can help alleviate the pressure on Miller, as he scuffled protecting Derek Carr’s blind side in his first NFL season.

This move makes a lot of sense for the Raiders, even after trading guard Kelechi Osemele to the New York Jets. The Raiders bigger issues were protecting the edge, rather than the inside of the offensive line. This move can either make last year’s third-round draft pick Brandon Parker a swing tackle, or he can move over to guard and help fill the hole that Osemele has left.

Brown will help bring some experience to the young offensive lineman on the Raiders roster. Kolton Miller and Brandon Parker need some grooming as an NFL tackle, so this free agent signing may help benefit the young core. Brown also provides some playoff experience, as he just played in last year’s super bowl with the New England Patriots. During last year’s playoff run, Brown only allowed one hurry throughout his playoff run.
