Tom Brady, Super Bowl MVP, Buccaneers,

In the first installment, we compared Tom Brady to the GOATS of the four major sports – MJ, Gretzky, Mays.

Brady ran away with the comparisons, and is easily the GOAT….. or is he?

When you’re talking about the greatest athlete of all time, you have to consider EVERY sport, and that’s where it gets tricky for Mr. Brady.

Let’s take a look at other sport goats….

Golf – Tiger Woods (fight me)

Tennis – Serena Williams

Soccer – Leo Messi

NASCAR – Richard Petty

Swimming – Michael Phelps

Olympics (Running) – Usain Bolt

I’ll break this next part into sections. One section is where Tom wins… the next; Tom loses.

To start off, Tom wins over Richard Petty. Although a very decorated driver, when it comes down to it….. NASCAR is…. NASCAR. Not to take away from Petty’s accomplishments. A record (tying) seven drivers’ championships, and a record 200 career wins at the top level, a record that will never be touched.

The next person Tom wins over? Tiger Woods. Woods is tied for most PGA tour wins (82), second in wins in major tournaments (15) and is going into the World Golf Hall of Fame this year. He was the top ranked golfer in the world from August 1999 to September 2004 (264 weeks) and again from June 2005 to October 2010 (281 weeks). During this time, he won 13 of his major championships.

So, why does Woods fall short against Brady? Well, from the years 2009-2018, Woods was irrelevant in the golf world, and went through numerous legal issues and marital issues, as well as dealing with two major back surgeries. He dropped out of the top 1,000 golf ranking.

He has since made a comeback, winning the Tour Championship in 2018, and then in April 2019, he won the Masters tournament, in a shocking, and dominant effort. Since then, Woods won his 82nd victory in the Zozo championship, and has since fallen off, having his fifth back surgery in December 2020.

The gap of years where Woods was irrelevant puts him behind Brady, as other than one year that Brady tore his ACL, Brady has dominated the league, giving him the edge.

This next matchup… for right now, is a dead tie. Brady and Messi, in my opinion, are neck and neck. Messi still has a lot of years ahead of him, and is still playing at a high level.

With 751 career goals, Messi ranks seventh all time, 231 behind the all time leader. The biggest knock on Messi, is that he has failed to win a World Cup title as a member and captain of the Argentina National Team. The lack of international success doesn’t play well into Messi’s resume, but if he can continue playing at a top level for the next few years, his stats alone and success at FC Barcelona could put him ahead of Brady. Let’s give them a tie, with a slight edge to Tom.

So, lets get one thing straight… No one is touching Michael Phelps. Phelps is the most decorated Olympian of all time, with a record 28 total medals, and a huge record of 23 gold medals, with the next closest person winning nine golds. I’m not even going to waste your time with a comparison…. it’s not close. Phelps wins by a MILE. He’s the greatest athlete of all time.

Let’s move on with probably the greatest debate… Who’s better? Serena Williams or Tom Brady?

The biggest debate is the amount of matches that Serena gets to play, over Brady. Serena has four cracks each year at winning a major title, whereas Brady of course only has one. In addition to her standalone wins, Serena also has won 14 grand slam doubles titles with ger sister, Venus, as well as three Olympic gold medals.

Craziest stat of all? She won a tennis open – While pregnant. Insanity. Shes consistently dominated her competition. She has a career record of 190-34, an 84.8% win percentage. Brady has a record of 230-69 (nice) which is a 77% win percentage. Everyone gets caught up in the glitz and glamour of the NFL, but make no mistake, tennis is a highly competitive sport, and Serena is the best… among men and women. She’s the greatest, and I believe, better than Tom Brady as an athlete.
