Los Angeles- Alicia Keys hosted the 61st Grammys and there were so many highs and lows with the award show. Before the awards started there was speculation that a special guest was going to arrive to kick off the show. Which happened five minutes into the awards. Alicia Keys brought out women who have empowered the world through adversity, messages, and songs.  Former first lady Michelle Obama, Jada Pickett Smith, and Lady GaGa were brought out in a special appearance and spoke on how music affected them in a positive way.

“From the Motown records I wore out on the South Side, to the ‘who run the world’ songs that fueled me through this last decade, music has always helped me tell my story. And I know that’s true for everybody here,” Obama said.
There was a tribute to Dolly Parton, in which Katty Perry, Miley Cyrus, and Little Big Town honored Parton. Parton did a duet with Miley, which had a lot of fans jumping up for joy. “The duet was just amazing; however why was Katty Pery involved. She was a bit off key, but altogether the tribute was just amazing,” said an anonymous source.

Just a few weeks ago Jennifer Lopez was announced that she was going to do a Mo-Town tribute and a lot of people were skeptical about why wasn’t another performer asked to do the tribute. After the performance tonight, some people asked why didn’t Diana Ross or another artists step in. “It is Mo-Town and she is a Latina woman. I understand that she brings in ratings and she is a hell of an entertainer, but Motown is apart of Black History said, “anonymous source.
Diana Ross was honored and she brought the house down on her 75th birthday. The last performance of the night that people were excited for was the Aretha Franklin tribute by Fantasia, Yolanda Adams, and Andra Day, but a lot of people felt like it was super short and expected more for the tribute. Other than that, a lot of people that had doubts with Alicia Keys being the host of the Grammys, walked away feeling enlighting, empowered, and enjoyed the sense of music and how it affects our daily lives.
