PHOENIX, AZ – Opening up week 3 action saw the Arizona Hotshots pitted against the Salt Lake Stallions which also happened to be the second meet up between the two Western Conference teams.
Upsetting news as Arizona not only lost the game to the Stallions, but the Hotshots also lost starting quarterback John Wolford.
Wolford was injured during the Hotshots first possession of the third quarter as he went to throw a pass that was ultimately intercepted.
It was eventually discovered that Wolford left the game as he sustained a back injury of some sort after taking the hit. Not only was the leader of the offense injured, but tackle-leading Steven Johnson also left the game due to an apparent injury.
After Wolford’s injury, former Texas A&M Aggie and backup quarterback Trevor Knight filled in quite adequately, completing 8 of his 17 attempts and gaining 95 passing yards.
The running game was nonexistent for the Hotshots as well as offensive weapon Rashad Ross collecting 51 receiving yards.
Salt Lake on the other hand didn’t have much of an exciting offensive performance, either.
Quarterback Josh Woodrum had a total of 178 passing yards and the running game tallied 91 total yards on the ground.
Defensively, the Stallions held their own as linebacker Greer Martini totaled 7 tackles and garnered an interception on the day.
Overall, the Hotshots will look at this game and learn from whatever held them back in order to continue their undefeated streak.
Arizona will face winless Atlanta, as the Legends are still vying for a taste of victory. The game is set to be broadcast on the NFL Network on Sunday, March 3rd at 6PM Mountain Standard Time.
