Daytona-Heading into the last 10 laps of NASCAR’s most prestigious event, there was a brutal 18 car pile up that resulted when one of the drivers tried to push Jimmie Johnson and was sent spinning out of control. Although there were 18 cars involved, thankfully none of the drivers were injured. After that pileup, there were two more costly pileups, which delayed the race. Matt DiBenedetto was the driver that spun out of control.
“It was go time, and I was pushing the 95 [Matt DiBenedetto] and it looked like he was trying to get to the middle and I started trying to get to the outside and just barely hooked him. Yeah, that was my bad. I wrecked a lot of cars. I feel bad about that.”
The battle between Joey Logano, Denny Hamlin, and Kyle Busch down the stretch had everyone out of their seats waiting to see who was going to be victorious, but Denny held on to win his second race in Daytona. Hamlin later revealed that this particular win for the Gibbs family meant more to him than any other, because of how much they have helped him in his career.
