Seattle, WA- Former Golden State Warriors’ David West is looking to start up a college league that will pay players. The league will have 12 teams after picking from different states and will be called the Historical Basketball League. Reportedly, the league will start in the summer of 2020.
“The league is going to have 12 teams after picking from a pool of 20 cities. The players will have salaries and receive full college scholarships to attend schools or vocational programs near the cities where they play. Because the season takes place during the summer, the players will not have any athletic responsibilities to conflict with their education, unlike with the NCAA’s model that has players competing at the same time while working on their educations,” said West.
The players will be paid around $50,000-$150,000 for the season. The league is still working out the necessary details with finding sponsors, but it will be interesting to see if this league could be another developmental league for the NBA or compete with Ice Cube’s Big 3 in the next few years.
