Just when the sports world thought it was safe to write them off as a lost cause, the Washington Wizards came through in the clutch last night garnering a 116-110 win against the Miami Heat.
The energy surging from player to player throughout last night’s game was palpable. The team seemed to move in lockstep, approaching each quarter with the precision of a well-oiled machine. Moreover, the chemistry that has so notably been absent from prior games seemed to make its long awaited return.
John Wall who’s been the source of heavy criticism this season, emerged as the irrefutable star of last night’s game. Wall approached the rematch against Miami with a level of intensity that fans haven’t seen in quite some time, garnering a total of 28 points for the Wizards.
Worth mentioning is the incredible effort that Wall’s teammates put forth in an effort to secure a win; Jeff Green earned a total of 19 points with both Austin Rivers and Bradley Beal trailing closely behind with 18 points each.
Another highlight of last night’s game was Dwight Howard whose preeminent performance made him a standout player. Howard, who until last night had only played in four games this season, earned a total of 11 points and 16 rebounds proving that he may in fact be an asset to his team rather than a hinderance.
The Wizard’s decision to maintain a unified front against the Heat proved itself to be effective, allowing them to observe a significant lead in points throughout a majority of the game. And by fourth quarter the team had secured a 19 point lead that Miami, try as they might, just couldn’t come back from.
The question still existing however is whether or not the Wizards can maintain the momentum they gained during last night’s game through the rest of the season.
Has the team had a rough start? Yes, most definitely. I’d be remiss to ignore everything standing in the way of the Washington Wizards, however the team has far more going for them rather than against them.
And despite undergoing a lengthy period of growing pains, the Wizards are comprised of players with the talent necessary to rival some of today’s more formidable NBA teams.
My unwavering support is and always will be with the underdog. Wizards, it’s on you!
