VSD Boxing correspondent TK Clue was at the world-Famous Mayweather Boxing Gym on Monday, hours after news broke of multi-division world champion, Olympic Gold Medalist, and International Boxing Hall of Famer Pernell Whitaker’s sudden and tragic passing in Virginia Beach. The proud native of Virginia who amassed a career record of 40-4-1 with 17 Kos, was universally recognized as one of – if not the best– defensive fighter to ever lace a pair of gloves and climb through the ropes, and was unanimously lauded as such by his peers throughout the sport as they mourned his unfortunate passing.

As word spread of the terrible news, tributes poured in from virtually every corner of the boxing world, as a who’s who of fighters past and present such as Mike Tyson, Oscar de la Hoya, Ray Leonard, Lennox Lewis, and Whitaker’s teammate on the Legendary 1984 Team USA Olympic boxing team Evander Holyfield among others, all made it a point to take the time to post very heartfelt messages in tribute to their fallen brother in arms.
