The event will take place on a Saturday night, which is against the norm of WWE pay-per-view event that regularly take place on Sunday evenings.
Prior to the announcement, it was reported in the Sports Business Journal that the WWE was considering Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas along with NFL stadiums in Miami, Los Angeles, Houston, New Jersey and Nashville.
Las Vegas Raiders President Marc Badain said he was thrilled to join WWE in hosting SummerSlam at Allegiant Stadium in August.
“WWE is a leader in global entertainment, and to host one of it signature events in the Sport and Entertainment Capital of the World is a perfect fit. The Raiders look forward to SummerSlam and a full schedule of events and entertainment to come at Allegiant Stadium.”
Steve Hill, president and CEO of the Las Vegas Convention & Visitor’s Authority, also was excited about Las Vegas hosting such a major event. It’s part of the vision the state had when it decided to increase the Clark County hotel tax to fund the public financing to build Allegiant Stadium.
“We couldn’t be more excited to host SummerSlam for the very first time and welcome the WWE, its superstars and the WWE Universe to Las Vegas this August,” he said. “Live entertainment and sporting events are returning to the destination in a big way, and SummerSlam is the perfect addition to the Las Vegas summer calendar.”
WWE President and Chief Revenue Officer Nick Khan was excited about bringing the event to his home town.
“Coming out of the pandemic, it was important to us to have a big event like SummerSlam in Las Vegas,” he said. “We expect to deliver a great night of sports-entertainment for the people of the city and a boost in foot traffic for the casinos and local businesses.”
