LAS VEGAS — Dion Brown described his NBA Summer League experience as a chance to prove himself and expressed gratitude for everyone who helped him reach the opportunity after delivering a memorable performance.
Brown said playing in the NBA Summer League was something he once believed might not be possible following his college career. He credited his family, agent, supporters, and teammates for believing in him and helping him earn the opportunity.
“It’s great to have this opportunity to be playing here in Summer League,” Brown said. “After my college career, I didn’t necessarily think it would be possible, but I had the right people believing in me. My family, my agent, and everyone around me kept telling me it was possible. I’m grateful to be here.”
Brown also praised his teammates after recording a triple-double, saying they made sure he knew exactly how close he was to reaching the milestone.
“I was very aware,” Brown said with a smile. “Every time someone got a rebound that wasn’t me, they let me hear it. They wanted me to get that last rebound. It shows the kind of group we have here. Everyone wants everyone else to succeed.”
The 23-year-old said the team’s chemistry has been one of the biggest highlights of the Summer League experience, describing the group as committed to improving and winning together.
“We’re about winning and getting better every day,” Brown said. “We have several players with NBA experience who have been great role models. They’ve brought energy, shared insight, and helped me grow, especially as I continue transitioning into becoming more of a true point guard.”
Brown also spoke highly of the guidance he has received from teammate Jody Fernando, saying the veteran has been instrumental in helping him expand different areas of his game.
“I like to pick his brain,” Brown said. “I’ve been a scorer in college and an off-ball player, but he’s helped me see the game differently. We ask each other questions, and he’s helped me a lot through this process.”
Although Brown’s playing time was limited throughout Summer League, he remained ready for his opportunity and made the most of it when his number was called.
“I appreciate this opportunity more than anything,” Brown said. “This has been an opportunity to change my life and help change my family’s life. I’m thankful to the coaching staff for believing in me and giving me this chance. I haven’t played a lot during Summer League, but they trusted me in this last game, and I’m proud of myself, proud of my teammates, and grateful for everyone who believed in me.”
Brown’s performance and perspective reflected both perseverance and gratitude, as he continues working toward earning a permanent opportunity at the NBA level.
